CM Requests Halt to Quetta Local Elections Amid Security and Weather Warnings

The Chief Minister of Balochistan has filed a petition with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking the cancellation of local government elections in Quetta, citing serious concerns over law and order, voter access, and civic safety.

The petition highlights that the current security situation in the city is precarious, affecting normal civic life and making it challenging to conduct a safe and fair electoral process. Additionally, ongoing internet service disruptions in the area could hinder voting and other election-related procedures.

Severe weather conditions have further compounded the problem, causing a significant number of residents to relocate to other areas. According to the petition, these factors collectively make it impossible to ensure the safety of voters and the integrity of the elections.

The Chief Minister has requested the Election Commission to review the petition thoroughly and make an appropriate decision, emphasizing that public safety must be prioritized.

The ECP is expected to examine the petition and announce its decision regarding the potential postponement or cancellation of the local government elections in Quetta. The matter has attracted attention due to its implications for electoral transparency and governance in the provincial capital.
