Defense Minister Khawaja Asif Vows Strong Response to Islamabad Courthouse Suicide Attack

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has vowed a strong response following the suicide attack outside the Islamabad District Court, calling the incident a direct message from terrorists and those supporting them.

Talking to reporters, Khawaja Asif said the attack was an attempt to pressure the state and marked a dangerous escalation, moving terrorism from border regions into Pakistan’s urban centers.

"Till now, terrorism was largely limited to border areas. The terrorist attack in Islamabad should be considered a message from the state that no area is safe for terrorists," he said.

Accusations Against Afghanistan

The Defense Minister accused the Afghan government of harboring and supporting terrorists, particularly members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP):
"All the followers of the banned TTP are sitting in Kabul. How can the Kabul government not accept responsibility?"

He further expressed skepticism over the prospects of successful dialogue with Afghan authorities, noting that the recent attack could force the Pakistani state to rethink its strategy.

Condemnation and Resolve

Khawaja Asif stressed that Pakistan’s forces and citizens are sacrificing daily in the fight against terrorism and vowed that acts of terror would not be tolerated:
"Our people and forces are making sacrifices against terrorism. Pakistan will give a befitting reply. Terrorist acts will not be tolerated in either border or urban areas."

Casualties and Situation

The suicide blast killed 12 people and injured 30 others, with several victims reported to be in critical condition. Authorities continue investigations into the attack and the identities of those responsible.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi earlier confirmed that the bomber attempted to enter the courthouse and detonated when security personnel arrived, with the goal of maximizing casualties.
