ECP Announces Senate, Punjab Assembly By-Election Schedule

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the schedule for upcoming Senate and Punjab Assembly by-elections following disqualifications and resignations.

According to the notification, the election to the Senate seat vacated by Shibli Faraz’s disqualification will be held in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on October 30.

The ECP also announced the schedule for Punjab Assembly constituencies. By-elections for PP-115 and PP-116 are set for November 23, the same day when polling will also be conducted in PP-269 Muzaffargarh.

The PP-115 and PP-116 seats fell vacant after Shahid Javed and Mahmood Ismail, both elected as independents, were disqualified by the Election Commission on May 9 due to their convictions in separate cases. Meanwhile, the PP-269 seat became vacant following the resignation of PPP’s Abbas.

With these announcements, political parties are expected to intensify campaigning in both Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as the by-elections will play a key role in shaping the provincial assemblies’ balance of power.
