LEGAL
The federal government has officially approved placing the names of several political leaders on the Exit Control List (ECL), sources confirmed on Saturday.
The list includes prominent figures from different political parties, such as PTI founder Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Omar Ayub, Fawad Chaudhry, and Shibli Faraz. Other notable leaders affected include Ali Amin Gandapur, Shehryar Afridi, and Usman Dar.
Sources also confirmed that the names of Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, Musarrat Cheema, and Kanwal Shozab have been added to the list. Additionally, Sheikh Rashid, Tahir Sadiq, Raja Basharat, and Wasiq Qayyum will be restricted from traveling abroad.
Recommendation by Punjab Government
The federal government acted on a recommendation from the Punjab government, which suggested placing 132 political leaders on the ECL. The move aims to monitor political activities and prevent possible illegal actions by these leaders.
Fawad Chaudhry’s Name Already on ECL
Sources noted that former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has been on the ECL for the past three years, a decision that has stirred political debate.
The expansion of the ECL highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to monitor political figures amid rising tensions and concerns over cross-border movements and accountability.
