Federal Leadership Considers Replacing AJK PM Anwarul Haq Over Poor Governance

The federal leadership, including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, has expressed serious reservations over the performance and governance style of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, describing his role during the recent political crisis in the region as unsatisfactory.

According to reliable sources, discussions have intensified at the federal level regarding a potential change in the AJK premiership. It has been decided to consider various options for replacing Anwarul Haq, including offering him an “honourable resignation” to ensure a smooth political transition.

In the event that the AJK Prime Minister refuses to step down voluntarily, a no-confidence motion or other constitutional measures may be initiated against him, the sources added.

The federal government and allied parties are reportedly of the view that a lack of public trust and administrative inefficiency cannot coexist, especially after the recent turmoil in Azad Kashmir. The leadership is said to be in favour of a political “reset” to restore stability and governance in the region.

Consultations are underway among coalition leaders to finalize a strategy for the leadership change. Once a decision is made, discussions will begin to identify a suitable candidate to serve as the new Leader of the House in the AJK Legislative Assembly.

The move reflects growing frustration within the federal coalition over governance challenges in Azad Kashmir and underscores efforts to ensure accountability and effective administration in the region.
