POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

A total of 25 newly selected members on reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly are set to take oath tomorrow, paving the way for their participation in the upcoming Senate elections.
According to official sources, the oath-taking ceremony will include 21 women on reserved women seats and 4 members representing minority communities.
Party-wise Breakdown:
· Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N): 7 members (including 1 minority seat)
· Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F): 7 members (including 2 minority seats)
· Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP): 4 members (including 1 minority seat)
· Awami National Party (ANP): 2 members
· Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Parliamentarians (PTIP): 1 female member
Once these members are sworn in, they will be fully entitled to cast their votes in the Senate elections, significantly altering the voting dynamics within the provincial assembly.
Significance for Senate Polls
Political observers suggest that the timing of the oath-taking is crucial as the province prepares for Senate elections, where every vote counts in determining the next wave of representation in the upper house of Parliament.
The development comes after political wrangling and legal delays that initially stalled the notification of these reserved seats. With the inclusion of these 25 members, party alignments in the KP Assembly are expected to shift, making upcoming political contests more competitive.
