Mohsin Naqvi Arrives in UK to Discuss Extradition Cases, Attend PSL Launch

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in London on Saturday for a three-day visit during which he is expected to hold key discussions with British officials on Pakistan’s pending extradition requests. The minister will also attend the launch ceremony of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season in his capacity as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Extradition Talks High on the Agenda

According to official sources, Naqvi is scheduled to meet representatives of the British Foreign Office, where he is expected to raise Pakistan’s request for the extradition of several individuals currently residing in the UK.

Sources said Naqvi has already provided evidence regarding these individuals to British High Commissioner Jane Marriott during her meeting with him in Islamabad earlier this week. However, officials within the UK Foreign Office indicated that the dossiers submitted to the High Commissioner in Pakistan had yet to formally reach London.

Pakistan Pursuing Extradition of Adil Raja and Shahzad Akbar

During their Islamabad meeting two days ago, Naqvi handed over extradition documents pertaining to former accountability adviser Shahzad Akbar and YouTuber Adil Raja, both of whom are wanted in Pakistan on various charges.

Naqvi maintained that Pakistan seeks their immediate return and said that he had also provided “solid evidence” against other individuals allegedly engaged in online propaganda against Pakistan.

The interior minister reiterated that while freedom of expression must be upheld, fake news remained a serious threat faced by countries worldwide.

Crackdown on “Fake News” From Abroad

In an earlier press conference in Lahore, Naqvi warned that individuals spreading misinformation from abroad — particularly via social media — would not be able to evade accountability.

He said some individuals based in London were making baseless allegations about Pakistani institutions while assuming they would remain beyond reach. “If you have evidence, then bring it forward,” he said, adding that those responsible for spreading falsehoods would be brought back to Pakistan soon.

“We will not allow anyone to be humiliated on social media. There will be no compromise on national security,” Naqvi said. “Those who are sitting outside and spreading fake news should know that they will be brought back soon, and they will have to answer for everything.”

Strengthening UK-Pakistan Cooperation

The interior minister’s visit follows a renewed phase of engagement between Islamabad and London on matters of security, illegal migration, and bilateral cooperation. Both governments have expressed interest in enhancing collaboration, including the repatriation of Pakistanis residing illegally in the UK.

Naqvi’s London trip is expected to carry forward these discussions while also reinforcing Pakistan’s efforts to secure the return of individuals it deems fugitives or responsible for disseminating anti-state propaganda.
