One Policeman Martyred, Five Injured in Lakki Marwat Suicide Attack

A suicide attack targeting a police mobile in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district on Monday resulted in the martyrdom of one policeman and injuries to five others, officials confirmed.

According to Asif Hassan, spokesperson for the Lakki Marwat District Police Officer (DPO), the attack targeted a Tajori police mobile. Head Constable Alauddin embraced martyrdom in the incident, while the suicide bomber’s accomplice managed to escape. A search operation is currently underway.

The injured officers were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Haq Nawaz, Constable Yar Muhammad, Elite Force Constable Kamal Ahmad, Elite Force Constable Naeemullah and Duty Foot Constable Nasrullah.

Police Say Major Attack Foiled

A later press release issued by Lakki Marwat police provided additional details about the attack. DPO Nazir Khan said the police had received credible intelligence about a suspicious motorcyclist traveling from Bittani subdivision toward the Bakhmal Ahmadzai area, reportedly planning to target a public gathering.

In response, local police were alerted, and checkpoints were set up at Katta Khel. When officers attempted to stop two suspicious motorcyclists, they tried to flee, prompting police to chase them.

“During the chase, one of the motorcyclists opened fire on police, and upon retaliatory action, he blew himself up,” the press release stated.

DPO Khan later visited the scene, where investigators cordoned off the site and began collecting evidence. He praised the police for “exemplary bravery” in foiling what he said could have been a devastating attack targeting civilians.

KP Chief Minister Condemns Attack

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the incident, stating that the sacrifices of police personnel “will not go in vain.”

“The provincial government stands with the police,” he said, adding that maintaining law and order remains a top priority. “Such cowardly attacks cannot dampen our morale.”

Separate Attack in Bannu Leaves Another Policeman Martyred

In a separate incident, Kashif Nawaz, spokesperson for the Bannu regional police officer, confirmed that Constable Muhammad Tariq was martyred when unidentified assailants opened fire on him at Sarangi Adda. The constable was targeted while leaving his home for duty.

Rise in Terrorist Attacks

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) decision to end its ceasefire with the government in 2022. Since then, the group has repeatedly targeted law enforcement agencies, security personnel, and police.

Just last week, three policemen were martyred in a terrorist attack on a checkpost in KP’s Hangu district.
