POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gauhar said that yesterday’s press conference was “disappointing” and that inappropriate words were used. He announced that PTI would hold an extraordinary press conference today, with a different and more constructive tone.
Speaking at the event, Barrister Gauhar emphasized that PTI does not seek conflict but wants to clarify certain issues. He noted that words had been used against the elected Chief Minister of a province, urging party members to set aside ego and move forward.
On Imran Khan’s Imprisonment and Political Struggles
Barrister Gauhar highlighted the politically motivated imprisonment of PTI founder Imran Khan and criticized delays in the judicial process. “Imran Khan was sentenced in January, today is December, and the case has not been finalized,” he said.
He further reflected on PTI’s electoral journey, stating that the party had grown from 91 seats out of 180 at one point to 71 seats today, including losses in their strongholds. Gauhar stressed that PTI remains committed to democratic principles despite these challenges.
Secretary General Salman Akram Raja on National Issues
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, present at the press conference, highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing challenges, describing a national “addiction to power” and drawing parallels to past regimes, including Musharraf’s era. He criticized unfulfilled promises of economic development, education, and healthcare.
Raja remarked, “Today the country is in the darkest place. There is unemployment, a lack of education and health facilities, and nothing is right. There is talk of economic development while turning Pakistan into a prison — a false dream and a lie.”
He also condemned past oppressive measures and warned that PTI will continue to remind the public of injustices suffered by the party in elections, stressing that the memory of these actions remains alive.
Looking Ahead
PTI’s upcoming press conference is expected to focus on clarifying the party’s stance, addressing internal and external criticisms, and reaffirming commitment to democratic principles amidst ongoing political and economic challenges.
