POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday reaffirmed that cowardly acts of terrorism would never weaken Pakistan’s resolve to combat extremism and violence.
Addressing the two-day Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad, Dar referenced the recent suicide blast in the federal capital and the attack on Cadet College Wana, both of which claimed multiple lives in the past 48 hours.
“Let me be very clear — these cowardly acts will never shake or weaken our national resolve to deal with this menace [terrorism],” Dar asserted. “If anything, they reaffirm our conviction that dialogue, understanding and partnership are the only sustainable path of peace and security.”
Condemning the recent attacks and offering condolences to the victims’ families, Dar said, “We categorically reject acts of terrorism in all forms and manifestations, whether these take place in Islamabad or anywhere in the world.”
The foreign minister stressed that terrorism remains one of the major global challenges, noting that Pakistan has been a bulwark against this menace which “does not recognise any boundary, religion, ethnicity or race.”
The suicide blast in Islamabad, the first in nearly three years, occurred at the entrance of a judicial complex in the G-11 sector, where hundreds of lawyers and litigants were present. Officials confirmed that the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack after the bomber failed to breach the main gate and detonated explosives outside the premises.
Meanwhile, security forces confirmed that all militants involved in the Wana Cadet College attack had been neutralised in an operation.
Pakistan has witnessed a sharp resurgence in terror incidents over the past year, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, after the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and vowed to resume attacks against security forces and law enforcement agencies.
Dar’s remarks came as Islamabad hosted several major events — including the Inter-Parliamentary Conference, the 6th Margalla Dialogue, and a tri-nation cricket series between Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe — underscoring the government’s determination to maintain stability despite renewed threats.
