Opposition Parties Stand with KP Government Over NFC Award, Seek Arrears Payment

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s opposition parties have expressed solidarity with the provincial government regarding the National Finance Commission (NFC) award, emphasizing the province’s right to its fair share and outstanding arrears.

During a press conference, PML-N parliamentary leader Sardar Shahjahan Yousaf stated that his party supports the KP government on the NFC issue and will engage with other provinces to ensure the award is properly implemented. He highlighted that funds for the province have not been released following the merger of the former FATA region.

PPP member Ahmed Kundi reaffirmed the party’s clear stance on resource distribution, noting that a meeting would be held before December 4 to lobby provinces and the federation for KP’s due allocation.

ANP representative Arbab Usman emphasized that his party’s stance transcends politics, advocating for Pakhtunkhwa’s rights and calling for a share greater than fair allocation.

Provincial Minister Meena Khan added that KP’s share of the NFC has increased from 14.2% to 19.4% after the FATA merger, but arrears remain unpaid. He also highlighted that Rs 2,500 billion of electricity net profit is due to the federation and noted that former FATA’s infrastructure has suffered significant damage due to terrorism. Meena Khan confirmed he will present KP’s case at the NFC meeting on December 4 and engage with the federation and other provinces to secure the province’s entitlements.

The unified position of the opposition parties signals strong provincial backing for KP’s claims, ahead of the crucial NFC discussions.
