POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
The Punjab government has announced the immediate enforcement of Section 144 in five districts of the province, citing potential security threats. According to an official notification from the Home Department, the ban will remain in effect for three days, starting from Saturday, October 12, to Monday, October 14.
The districts affected by this ban include Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, and Kot Addu. During this period, all forms of political gatherings, sit-ins, meetings, and protests are strictly prohibited. The decision to impose Section 144 was made in response to requests from local district administrations, which expressed concerns that public gatherings could become potential targets for terrorist activities.
The Home Department has issued a formal notification to ensure compliance with these emergency measures, emphasizing the government's commitment to maintaining law and order and safeguarding public property. Authorities are urging citizens to cooperate during this period to prevent any untoward incidents.
This recent move follows the earlier imposition of Section 144 in Lahore and Sargodha last week, where the government had called in Rangers for added security. In Lahore, Section 144 was enforced from October 3 to 8, with Rangers deployed on October 5. Similarly, in Sargodha, the ban was active from October 4 to 6, restricting demonstrations and protests.
As the situation develops, authorities remain vigilant, aiming to protect citizens and public safety amidst rising security concerns in the province.
