Power users are charged an additional RS3.8

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) gave its approval on Monday to the government's plan to charge power consumers nationwide Rs3.82 per unit for a four-month period beginning retroactively on March 1 and then Rs1.43 per unit for the remainder of the upcoming fiscal year.

The new surcharges have been imposed in response to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) demand for funding the cost of the electricity sector's debt servicing and a gradual reduction of circular debt, which was expected to total Rs2.6 trillion by the end of December 2022.
