A high-level meeting is set for February 25 to decide the next course of action.Karachi: The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has strongly condemned the arrests of Murtaza Khan Jatoi and Afaq Ahmed, calling for an urgent leadership meeting on February 25. GDA leaders have given a three-day ultimatum for Jatoi’s release, warning of protests if their demands are not met. GDA’s Response & Allegations At a press conference, Syed Sadruddin Shah Rashdi criticized the Sindh government, stating that: • The opposition must be given the right to protest and speak freely. • Sindh's law and order situation is worsening, with jobs and police stations allegedly being sold. • The GDA remains strong and has the public’s trust. • False cases against Murtaza Jatoi are politically motivated. Rashdi emphasized that the GDA will seek justice through legal means, but if justice is denied, protests will follow. Allegations Against PPP & Government Dr. Safdar Abbasi warned that if Jatoi is not granted legal justice within three days, the GDA will take to the streets. He accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of fascism and claimed: • Cases were falsely filed against Jatoi during the elections. • Sindh’s resources, including water and land, are being plundered. • Police are acting as a “B-team” for the PPP. Former Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Fehmida Mirza, called the arrests a political vendetta, adding that the elections were rigged and the judiciary is under pressure. Concerns Over Sindh’s Security & Resources Former Chief Minister Liaquat Jatoi expressed concern over Sindh’s deteriorating security, stating: • Political opponents are being targeted. • Water shortages in Sindh could have disastrous effects. • The recent suggestion to rename the Indus River to “Punjab River” is unacceptable. Jeay Sindh Mahaz leader Riaz Chandio linked Jatoi’s arrest to efforts to weaken the movement to save the Indus River, warning that Sindh is facing worsening poverty, crime, and kidnappings. Next Steps With February 25 set as the deadline, the GDA has hinted at large-scale protests if their demands are not met. The political climate in Sindh remains tense, with allegations of government overreach and election rigging fueling further opposition. 📢 What’s your take on this political showdown?
