President asks hospital to refund Rs2.9 million medical bill to citizen

The daughter of a patient who passed away as a result of the medical negligence, professional misconduct, and malpractice of the hospital's doctors has filed a claim against Shifa International Hospital Islamabad, and President Dr. Arif Alvi has ordered the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) to give instructions to the hospital to refund the patient's family Rs2.9 million.
The President also maintained the hospital's Rs. 900,000 penalties, citing evidence of hospital misconduct and medical negligence.
Dr. Alvi also instructed the IHRA to be more cautious and vigilant in order to carry out its duties.
The Wafaqi Mohtasib (WM) had ruled that the complainant (the daughter of the deceased patient) had been subjected to discrimination because, in a previous case involving Shifa, IHRA had not only fined Shifa but also instructed the hospital to refund the amount in lieu of medical bills. The president rejected this representation made by IHRA.
