2 Traffic Policemen Martyred in Lakki Marwat; 2 Terrorists Killed in Bannu Operation

Unidentified gunmen martyred two traffic police officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday morning, while in a separate operation the same day, two suspected terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Bannu.

According to Lakki Marwat police spokesperson Shahid Hameed, the slain policemen — identified as Israel and Sanaullah — were on their way to Tajazai Adda for duty when they were ambushed by armed assailants on Longkhel Road near Gulbaz Dehqan village. Both officers hailed from the Longkhel area.

District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Jawad Ishaq revealed that the attackers, riding two motorcycles, not only opened fire on the officers — who were in civilian clothes — but also stole their submachine guns before fleeing the scene. A police cordon was established immediately and an investigation is ongoing.

Lakki Marwat has witnessed a notable uptick in militant activity over recent months. Just last week, the head of the Shahab Khel peace committee and two of his companions were gunned down in the area. In June, several militant hideouts along the Kurram and Gambila rivers were destroyed by police in a search and strike operation. Earlier that month, a fierce gun battle in Kot Kashmir left three terrorists dead and one police officer martyred.

Meanwhile, in Bannu’s Domel tehsil, a joint police-CTD operation resulted in the killing of two suspected terrorists after a 20-minute exchange of fire. According to Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan, the slain suspects were identified as Hussain Ahmed and Inaam alias Tooru, the latter a known militant from Haider Khel, North Waziristan.

Ahmed and Inaam were wanted in multiple terrorism cases, including targeted attacks and IED blasts. Law enforcement recovered two AK-47 rifles, four hand grenades, six magazines, 150 bullets, and two mobile phones from the suspects. Several accomplices managed to escape using the cover of darkness and dense bushes, but an operation to track them is ongoing.

RPO Sajjad commended the timely action, stating that a potential major terrorist attack had been foiled. He reaffirmed the resolve of KP police and the CTD to restore lasting peace in the region.

These incidents highlight a growing security concern in southern KP, where renewed militant activities are challenging local law enforcement and peace committees. Authorities have vowed to continue their operations until the complete elimination of militant elements.
