The Incident

The confrontation broke out when SFA officials discovered severe health violations at a local shop. The situation turned physical when the owner resisted the enforcement of food safety laws.

  • Violent Confrontation: During the raid, the shopkeeper, identified as Sabir, reportedly assaulted the staff and hurled verbal abuse. Officials stated that a female officer was pushed, and another staff member’s clothing was torn during the struggle.

  • Health Violations: The inspection revealed alarming hygiene issues, including the use of expired and hazardous cooking oil. Following the discovery, the premises were immediately sealed.

  • Legal Action: Karachi police swiftly took the suspect into custody. A formal case is currently being registered for the assault and for obstructing government officials from performing their duties.

  • Ministerial Response: Sindh Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman condemned the attack, stating that violence against government teams is "unacceptable." He warned that those who take the law into their own hands will face severe consequences and reaffirmed that the crackdown on substandard food will continue across the city.
