Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that legislation has been enacted to make public the assets of government employees, clarifying that the move is a practical reform and not an additional condition imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Addressing a ceremony in Lahore, the finance minister stated that the IMF had asked Pakistan to ensure transparency by revealing the assets of government employees. “Legislation has been made in this regard, and this is not an additional condition but a practical step,” he said.
Senator Aurangzeb announced that the assets of civil servants and all parliamentarians would be made available on an official website by December 31, describing the move as part of broader efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in public office.
Speaking on economic policy, the finance minister said job creation was not the direct responsibility of the government but of the private sector. He emphasised that the government’s role was to provide a conducive environment for start-ups and young entrepreneurs, adding that sustainable economic growth would be led by private sector initiatives.
He said that the expansion of the digital economy and e-commerce had helped boost business activity, broaden the tax net and improve taxpayer confidence. The introduction of automated systems, he added, had enhanced transparency in tax collection and strengthened trust between taxpayers and authorities.
Senator Aurangzeb credited the prime minister’s economic team for its hard work, saying corruption had significantly reduced and inflation remained under control despite economic challenges.
Highlighting the importance of technological transformation, the finance minister said Pakistan must move decisively towards a digital economy. He noted that agreements signed to license crypto exchanges would further strengthen the financial system.
“More than 25 million Pakistanis are involved in the crypto business, most of them youth,” he said, adding that empowering young people and embracing digital innovation would help drive the economy forward and ensure long-term national progress.
