The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday rejected the pre-arrest bail plea of senior party leader and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, due to his absence in court proceedings.
ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah presided over the hearing related to multiple cases filed against PTI leaders in connection with the November 26 protests. Neither Omar Ayub nor his legal team appeared before the court, prompting the judge to dismiss his bail application on grounds of non-compliance.
According to court records, Omar Ayub was already on bail in 14 different cases related to violent demonstrations and public disorder stemming from the November protests.
The rejection of his bail may pave the way for potential arrest, unless he secures fresh legal relief from a higher court.
The November 26 protests, organized by the PTI, were part of a broader campaign against alleged political victimization and delays in elections. The protests resulted in multiple FIRs against top PTI leaders, including charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act for incitement, vandalism, and disturbing public order.
The court’s decision adds to the growing legal pressure on senior PTI leaders as they face a range of criminal charges following the May 9 unrest and subsequent nationwide protests.
As of now, Omar Ayub's legal team has not issued a formal statement on the court’s ruling or indicated whether they plan to challenge the verdict in a higher forum.
