ATC Reserves Verdict on Bail Plea of Aleema Khan’s Son in Jinnah House Attack Case

The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has reserved its verdict on the bail application of Shah Reez, son of PTI founder Aleema Khan’s sister, in the Jinnah House attack case.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Shah Reez’s counsel, Rana Mudassar, argued that his client had been falsely implicated in the case for political reasons. He maintained that Shah Reez was accused of inciting workers but, despite a thorough investigation, no direct evidence has been produced against him.

The defense lawyer further highlighted that Reez’s name does not appear in the FIR, challan, or investigation reports. He told the court that his client was in Chitral at the time of the incident, and presented an affidavit and supporting evidence to prove his alibi. He also alleged that Shah Reez was targeted due to his mother Aleema Khan’s vocal stance on the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.

On the other hand, the government prosecutor countered that some pictures had been retrieved from the social media accounts of Reez’s friends, although nothing incriminating was found on his personal accounts. He stressed that the affidavit submitted by the defense had not yet been verified and urged the court to reject the bail plea.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the ATC reserved its decision on Shah Reez’s bail application, which will be announced in the next hearing.

The Jinnah House attack case, registered at Sarwar Road police station, remains one of the most high-profile trials stemming from the events of May 9, 2023, when violent protests erupted across the country following Imran Khan’s arrest.
