Attackers of Maulana Hamidul Haq Identified, Linked to Foreign Spy Agencies

Security officials have identified the group responsible for the February 28 suicide attack that martyred Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUIS) and deputy superintendent of Darul Uloom Haqqania.

According to senior government sources, a detailed investigation report will be submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the coming days.

The report reveals that an international terrorist organization, acting with the support of two hostile foreign intelligence agencies, orchestrated the attack. Investigators have also confirmed the nationality of the suicide bomber, who was a foreign national that infiltrated the seminary from outside.

IG KP Confirms Progress

Speaking to Geo News, Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed said that investigators have successfully tracked the network involved in planning the assassination of Maulana Hamidul Haq.

“The planners behind the suicide attack have been identified. We are making further progress and will bring all involved to justice,” he stated.

Background: Martyrdom of a Religious Scholar

On February 28, 2025, a suicide blast rocked the Jamia Masjid within Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak, Nowshera, during Friday prayers, killing eight people, including Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani. The devastating blast sent shockwaves across religious and political circles in Pakistan and was widely condemned.

Maulana Hamidul Haq was the son of the late Maulana Samiul Haq, a revered scholar and former head of Darul Uloom Haqqania, who was also assassinated in 2018.

Implications and Next Steps

This development has once again highlighted the deep-rooted nexus between foreign intelligence agencies and extremist outfits seeking to destabilize Pakistan’s religious harmony.

The federal government is expected to take up the matter at the national security level, with likely implications for intelligence coordination and border security.
