Authorities have taken emergency measures to protect Multan city from an imminent flood in the Chenab River, expected to reach over 800,000 cusecs in the next one to two days.
According to the district administration, it has been decided to create a crack in the road near Head Muhammad Wala to divert the floodwaters away from Multan city. Preparations are already underway as pits have been dug and marked along the road, which will be destroyed with explosives if necessary. This controlled diversion aims to minimize damage to the city and safeguard thousands of lives.
Officials highlighted that a similar step was taken in 2014 at the same location, where a crack in the road helped reduce the intensity of floodwaters threatening Multan.
The administration has urged residents in low-lying and vulnerable areas to remain alert and cooperate with rescue and relief teams. Emergency services, including rescue workers and law enforcement agencies, have been placed on high alert as the situation develops.
With the looming threat of massive flooding, the coming days will prove crucial in protecting Multan and its surrounding areas.
