The Balochistan Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution to review the Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act, while also considering a proposal to grant district status to Mand tehsil in Kech.
The session, chaired by Chairman of the Panel Rehmat Saleh, witnessed key legislative discussions.
Speaking on the floor of the House, Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti emphasized the need for consensus in lawmaking. He noted that while the Mines and Minerals Act was earlier passed as regular legislation, objections were later raised that required attention.
“Since day one, our stance has been to take all parties along. Our doors are open for every positive contribution,” Bugti assured, offering to work with both government and opposition to bring an amended form of the Act back to the Assembly.
Meanwhile, a separate resolution was tabled by government member Meena Baloch, urging the government to declare Mand tehsil of Kech’s Tamp sub-division a new district.
The resolution highlighted that Kech has become the most populous district in Balochistan, stretching from Panjgur to the Iranian border. It argued that Mand, located 150 kilometers from Turbat, faces serious challenges in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and law and order. According to the resolution, Mand meets all criteria for becoming a district, and upgrading its status would help ensure delivery of basic services at people’s doorsteps.
Additionally, Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar presented the Prince Fahd Hospital Dalbandin Bill 2025, which was referred to the relevant standing committee for detailed review.
The Assembly session was adjourned until 3:00 PM on October 2.
