POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
On the 17th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, honored the unparalleled sacrifices made by his mother, describing her life as a beacon of courage, perseverance, and hope for the people of Pakistan. In his tribute, Bilawal reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the struggle for a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Pakistan, one that embodies the ideals and vision of Benazir Bhutto.
Bilawal emphasized that Benazir Bhutto was not only a political figure but a symbol of hope for the oppressed and marginalized classes of society. “Her life was a symbol of courage, perseverance, and hope for Pakistanis,” Bilawal said, reflecting on the sacrifices made by his mother in her relentless pursuit of justice and equality for all.
Drawing parallels with the legacy of his grandfather, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Bilawal highlighted the enduring commitment of both leaders to the empowerment of the people. “Like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto also believed in the power of the people,” he said. Bilawal also recalled her philosophy of reconciliation and dialogue, which, he stated, laid the foundation for a modern and bright Pakistan. “Her thinking of reconciliation, consultation, and understanding different points of view is the cornerstone of our political ideology,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, Bilawal expressed his determination to carry forward Benazir Bhutto’s legacy, particularly her commitment to human freedom and democratic values. He reiterated the PPP’s unwavering resolve to continue the fight against terrorism, extremism, and any forces that threaten Pakistan’s stability. He also mentioned that the guidance of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto's vision on global issues, such as Palestine and Kashmir, would continue to inspire the PPP's policies on the international stage.
In a call for unity, Bilawal urged the nation to come together and work towards overcoming the challenges facing democracy and constitutional governance in Pakistan. He pointed out that Benazir Bhutto’s life was a testament to perseverance and dedication to a great cause, as she sacrificed herself for the betterment of the nation. “Bibi Shaheed’s dream was a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Pakistan,” he said.
He also made an appeal to PPP workers and the broader nation, urging them to renew their commitment to the principles of democracy, tolerance, and social justice that Benazir Bhutto championed. He declared, “Benazir Bhutto's life and sacrifice are eternal proof of her struggle for a just and equal society. It is our responsibility to make this dream of Bibi Bhutto a reality.”
Bilawal concluded with optimism, saying, “The day is not far when Bibi Shaheed’s vision of a Pakistan based on justice will become a reality,” reinforcing his unwavering belief in the fulfillment of his mother’s vision for the nation.
