A massive explosion at a chemical factory in Sanga Reddy district of the southern Indian state of Telangana on Monday left at least 10 people dead and more than 20 others injured, local media reported.
The blast occurred in the afternoon hours, reportedly while workers were handling volatile substances inside the factory premises. The intensity of the explosion was such that several workers were thrown nearly 100 meters away, while temporary shelters near the site caught fire, further worsening the situation.
Panic and Fire Spread
The residential tents set up near the factory for workers were engulfed in flames, causing panic among nearby residents and families of the laborers.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as plumes of smoke rose above the factory, followed by loud cries and multiple injuries. “The ground shook, and the fire spread rapidly to the tents,” a local resident said.
Rescue Efforts Underway
Rescue teams and fire brigade personnel rushed to the site and began emergency operations to extinguish the fire and recover victims from the debris. According to officials, the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals, with some reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities fear the death toll may rise, given the severity of the explosion and the number of workers present at the time.
Cause Under Investigation
Preliminary reports suggest the blast may have been triggered by chemical reactions involving flammable materials, but an official investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Local administration and the Telangana state disaster response team are monitoring the situation, and compensation announcements are expected for victims and their families.
