Najaf Hameed, brother of former spymaster Faiz Hameed, found himself in legal jeopardy after a Rawalpindi court dismissed his bail plea in connection with a bribery case. Sources reported that anti-graft officials promptly took Hameed into custody and transported him to Chakwal as per the court's directives.
This arrest follows Hameed's earlier securing of protective bail from the court after being implicated in the bribery case. The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) initiated an inquiry against him in April 2023 for alleged out-of-turn promotion and possession of assets beyond his known means.
In the pursuit of evidence, the anti-graft body had previously written to the regional deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi and Chakwal, requesting records of land owned by Najaf Hameed. Furthermore, on February 13, 2024, Hameed faced suspension from his position as Naib Tehsildar in Chakwal over allegations of misconduct, further complicating his legal situation.
The developments surrounding Najaf Hameed's arrest highlights ongoing tensions and squabbles in military establishment.
