China Extends Pakistan’s $2 Billion Loan Repayment by One Year

China has extended the repayment period of a $2 billion loan owed by Pakistan, providing crucial financial relief to the country.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed the extension, stating that the loan, which was due for repayment on March 24, will now be settled at a later date. This move underscores China’s continued financial support for Pakistan amid its economic challenges.

The extension follows President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to China, where Chinese officials reaffirmed their commitment to Pakistan’s economic stability and development. The visit strengthened bilateral relations, with China pledging continued assistance to Pakistan in various sectors, including infrastructure, trade, and energy.

Pakistan has been relying on financial assistance from friendly nations and international lending institutions to manage its economic situation. China, being one of Pakistan’s largest economic partners, has frequently provided financial aid and investment in key projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

This latest extension provides Pakistan with some breathing room as it navigates economic reforms and seeks to stabilize its financial situation.
