The Islamabad Sessions Court on Tuesday expressed strong displeasure over the non-compliance with the arrest warrant issued for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a weapons recovery case.
Arrest Warrant Upheld
The court upheld the non-bailable arrest warrant against Gandapur and sought an explanation from DIG Operations regarding the failure to execute the warrant.
Presiding over the session, the judge criticized the repeated delays and non-compliance, stating, “Warrants have been issued several times, yet no compliance report has been submitted. This cannot continue.”
Rejection of Exemption Request
The court also rejected Gandapur’s request for exemption from appearance, with the judge admonishing the defense counsel for repeatedly applying for exemptions. “You file an exemption request on every date and fail to present the accused,” the judge remarked, emphasizing that these delays waste the court’s time.
Defense Seeks Acquittal Decision
During the proceedings, Gandapur’s lawyer requested the court to prioritize deciding on the accused’s acquittal application before moving forward with other matters. However, the judge maintained that the arrest warrant must be executed and compliance ensured before further discussions.
Adjournment and Warning
The court adjourned the hearing to January 29, directing law enforcement to comply with the arrest warrant and provide a comprehensive report on the matter.
The case, which pertains to the recovery of illegal weapons, has garnered significant attention due to Gandapur’s political position and the continued delays in legal proceedings.
This development highlights the judiciary’s frustration with the lack of accountability and compliance, underscoring the need for adherence to court directives to uphold the rule of law.
