A devastating accident involving a coaster carrying 25 people from Astoor in Gilgit-Baltistan to Rawalpindi has claimed the lives of 18 individuals after the vehicle plunged into a river near Thalchi Bridge. According to initial reports, 12 bodies, including those of four women, have been retrieved from the river. Among the survivors, a girl, believed to be the bride, has been found injured and has been rushed to the hospital.
Rescue operations are ongoing to locate 10 missing individuals, with authorities at the scene working tirelessly. The local hospital staff, along with civil hospital personnel in the Gilgit sub-division Jaglot, have been instructed to remain alert and prepared to handle further casualties.
The spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government confirmed that the accident occurred when the Baratian coaster, en route to Rawalpindi, lost control and fell into the river. In response, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar expressed his sorrow over the tragic event and instructed authorities to accelerate the search and rescue efforts.
Rescue workers, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Diamar, are present at the accident site, assisting with the ongoing operations.
