Four Killed, Nine Injured in Drone Attack on Ukrainian City of Sumy

At least four people, including a child, were killed, and nine others injured in a Russian drone attack targeting an apartment building in Sumy, northeastern Ukraine.

·       Russian Drone Assault:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that an Iranian-made Shahed drone was used in the attack. He condemned the act as a "terrible Russian crime" and urged the global community to maintain pressure on Russia.

·       Extent of the Damage:
Local authorities reported damage to five apartments and over 20 cars. Rescue operations are ongoing as emergency services sift through the rubble.

·       Defense and Countermeasures:
Ukraine’s military stated that 81 drones were launched overnight, with 37 shot down, including in Sumy and near Kyiv.

·       Wider Impact:
In Odesa, Russian drones targeted the port town of Izmail, damaging a grain warehouse, hospital, and residences. Meanwhile, Moscow claimed to have intercepted 104 Ukrainian drones over Kursk and Bryansk regions.

The attack follows a Ukrainian drone strike on Belgorod, Russia, which killed a woman and her child. The war, approaching its third anniversary on February 24, shows no signs of de-escalation.
