Gandapur Warns: No IMF Support Without Imran Khan Access

Rawalpindi: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has issued a clear warning, stating that if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders are not allowed to meet party founder Imran Khan, then the government cannot count on their support for IMF-related decisions.

After a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with the incarcerated PTI founder in Adiala Jail, Gandapur addressed the media and expressed frustration over restrictions placed on PTI leaders. “Five or six of our people should be allowed to meet the PTI founder regarding the budget,” he said, emphasizing that their participation in crucial national decisions—such as those tied to IMF conditionalities—hinges on transparent and democratic engagement.

He reiterated that the PTI founder remains open to talks for the sake of Pakistan, but stressed that “real democracy” is needed in the country. “The system must realize that it cannot function by force,” Gandapur asserted.

He also highlighted the ongoing legal challenges facing PTI and urged that pending court cases be decided fairly. “InshaAllah, we will get the PTI founder released very soon,” Gandapur stated optimistically, calling the charges against Imran Khan “false and politically motivated.”

The KP Chief Minister lamented the suppression of PTI’s democratic rights, saying, “Our leaders and workers are in jails. Human rights are being violated. If those sitting in parliament do not have Form 45, they should be removed.”

Gandapur signaled a shift from governance to political mobilization, announcing plans for protest movements if their demands are not addressed. “I was given the duty to run the government, but now I will also mobilize for protests. After what the PTI founder says, our opinion has no value—his word is final,” he concluded.

The statement signals rising political tensions and adds pressure on the federal government amidst ongoing IMF negotiations and economic challenges.
