Government and Opposition Urge BNP Chief Akhtar Mengal to Reconsider Resignation from National Assembly
Leaders from both the government and opposition have appealed to Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Akhtar Mengal to reconsider his decision to resign from the National Assembly. Mengal, who announced his resignation citing his inability to serve his people effectively, has caused a stir in the political arena with his abrupt decision.
On Wednesday, a government delegation led by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah visited Mengal to persuade him to stay in his parliamentary position. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Rana Sanaullah expressed surprise at Mengal’s decision, stating, "Akhtar Mengal’s resignation is not only shocking for the people of his constituency but also for the government. We have come to him to discuss his concerns, and we will make every effort to address his grievances and ensure he remains with us."
The government's outreach was matched by an appeal from the opposition, as a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delegation also met with Mengal. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar emphasized the importance of parliamentary participation in resolving issues. "Resignation is not the solution to any problem," Barrister Gohar remarked. "Staying in parliament and raising your voice is the way to bring about change."
Mengal's resignation came as a response to his frustration over the ongoing situation in Balochistan. In his resignation letter, he expressed his disillusionment with the state, the president, and the prime minister, declaring that he could no longer represent his people under the current circumstances.
This unusual display of unity between the government and opposition reflects the gravity of Mengal's decision and the recognition of his pivotal role in representing the concerns of Balochistan in the National Assembly. As efforts continue to persuade him to withdraw his resignation, the political landscape awaits his final decision.
