Government Increases Petrol and Diesel Prices by Rs 55 Amid Regional Tensions

The government has announced a significant increase in the prices of petroleum products, citing escalating regional tensions and soaring global oil prices.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik addressed the media in a press conference. Ishaq Dar highlighted that the ongoing war situation in the region has caused petroleum prices to skyrocket. “The Prime Minister is closely monitoring the situation and has held meetings today to review the developments. We are in contact with foreign ministers of other countries to find solutions and reduce tensions,” he said.

Minister Dar further added, “Prices have been increasing significantly every day, and we have to balance the situation. The Prime Minister and the Field Marshal remain in touch with their counterparts to address the crisis.”

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik described the circumstances as extraordinary, saying, “The situation that started in the neighborhood has affected the entire region. We had increased our reserves accordingly and are taking necessary measures as a responsible state.”

He announced that the difficult decision to raise petroleum prices was taken under compulsion. Petrol and diesel prices will increase by Rs 55 per liter. “As soon as the situation improves, prices will be reduced just as quickly, and we will review petroleum prices weekly,” Malik added.

Following this increase, the new price of petrol is Rs 321.17 per liter, while diesel will cost Rs 335.86 per liter.
