Govt Rejects PTI Demand for Judicial Commission on May 9 Events

The government has officially rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) demand to form a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9, sources revealed on Monday. The refusal comes as part of the government’s detailed clause-by-clause response to PTI’s written demands submitted during their ongoing negotiations.

Sources stated that the government clarified in its written response that judicial commissions are constituted only for matters not already under court proceedings. The events of May 9, which include attacks on military installations, are currently being addressed by the courts. Several individuals accused in connection with the incidents have already been sentenced by military courts.

The government has also requested PTI to provide a detailed list of missing persons and those arrested during the events of November 26. “Without specific names and details, no action can be taken for their release,” the government response stated. Additionally, PTI was urged to provide information on deaths linked to these events to facilitate further investigation.

The government’s response will be submitted to the Speaker of the National Assembly, who will determine the next steps, including the possibility of scheduling a fourth meeting for negotiations between the two sides.

The rejection is a key development in the ongoing dialogue between the government and PTI. During their third meeting, PTI had submitted a series of demands, including the release of their chairman, Imran Khan, as well as other party leaders and workers, alongside the formation of a judicial commission for May 9 and November 26 incidents.

While the government has prepared its written response, the Speaker’s decision on the next phase of negotiations will play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of this political standoff.
