HEC Pakistan Issues Final Warning on Discontinued Two-Year Degree Programs

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has reiterated its stance on the discontinuation of two-year Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Master of Arts (MA), and Master of Science (MSc) degree programs, cautioning students, parents, and educational stakeholders against enrollment in these obsolete programs.

Since 2019, the HEC has been phasing out these two-year degree programs, setting a final deadline for June 30, 2022. Despite this clear directive, certain educational institutions have continued to admit students into these programs.

In a recent statement, the HEC emphasized that degrees obtained from these programs after the specified deadline will not be recognized or attested by the commission. Institutions offering these programs are considered disaffiliated from the state educational system, rendering their degrees invalid in the eyes of the statutory body responsible for higher education in Pakistan.

The commission underscored the importance of verifying the recognition status of educational institutions before seeking admission, cautioning that degrees from unrecognized programs could adversely affect students' academic and professional futures.

Prospective students, parents, and stakeholders are urged to consult the official HEC website for a comprehensive list of recognized colleges and institutions to ensure they make informed decisions regarding their education.
