Helicopter Service Continues in Kurram District to Assist Citizens Amid Road Closures

Amid road closures in Kurram district, citizens are being assisted through an ongoing helicopter service launched by the provincial government under the special instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur. The decision comes as the situation in the district remains tense, with normal transportation routes yet to be restored. The final resolution of the matter is expected to be addressed in a Grand Jirga meeting today.

Yesterday, the provincial government's Mi-17 helicopter made six flights to and from Kurram, transporting 145 individuals and essential supplies. The first flight carried 29 people from Peshawar to Parachinar, along with a significant delivery of milk packets for children. In the second flight, 31 individuals were transferred from Parachinar to Kohat. The third flight facilitated the transport of 10 people and one body from Kohat to Parachinar.

Subsequent flights included the transport of 31 more individuals from Parachinar to Kohat, followed by the fifth flight carrying five people back from Kohat to Parachinar. The final flight of the day saw 39 passengers, including eight children, being flown from Parachinar to Peshawar.

In total, 613 people have been transported so far through the government’s helicopter service, including children, women, patients, students, and members of the Jirga. The service has also been instrumental in delivering essential medicines to Kurram, with about ten tons of medical supplies already being sent.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed understanding of the hardships faced by the people of Kurram and emphasized that the provincial government is utilizing all available resources to provide relief. He assured that the government is committed to resolving the ongoing issues swiftly, with hopes that the current crisis will soon be settled peacefully, allowing life to return to normal in the region.

The helicopter service will remain operational until land routes to Kurram are reopened, providing continued assistance to those in need.
