IHC to Hear Petition Against PTA Chairman’s Removal on Thursday

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed the hearing of the petition challenging the removal of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Lt. Gen. (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman.

A division bench comprising Justice Muhammad Asif and Justice Inam Amin Minhas will hear the case on Thursday.

The development comes a day after Justice Babar Sattar, in a detailed ruling, ordered the immediate removal of the PTA Chairman from office. The court had observed that his appointment violated due legal procedures and directed authorities to ensure compliance.

Following the decision, Lt. Gen. (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman filed an intra-court appeal against his removal, seeking relief from the IHC. The appeal argues that the ruling was issued without providing him adequate opportunity to present his stance.

The upcoming hearing is expected to determine whether the court will grant interim relief to the former PTA Chairman or uphold Justice Babar Sattar’s decision.

The case holds significant importance for Pakistan’s telecom sector, as leadership of the PTA plays a crucial role in regulating digital communication, internet policies, and overseeing developments in the country’s IT landscape.
