Immediate Repairs Ordered for Leakages in Chashma Right Bank Canal

A high-level meeting chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Commerce, Haroon Akhtar Khan, reviewed the status of the Chashma Right Bank Canal, highlighting critical leakage issues affecting the canal’s infrastructure.

The meeting statement revealed that leakages were identified at Distributors 14 and 15 near Head Jamma, along with weak walls along the canal that threaten the water supply. Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized that such leakages are a serious concern impacting both farmers and industries, who form the backbone of Pakistan’s economy.

Underlining Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s commitment to prioritizing the problems faced by farmers, Haroon Akhtar stressed the urgency of resolving these issues. He noted that the Chashma Canal is a vital water source for many agricultural communities and industries, and any disruption due to leakage could severely affect livelihoods.

To address the matter swiftly, Haroon Akhtar Khan directed the immediate commencement of repair and construction work on the canal. Additionally, he announced the formation of a dedicated committee tasked with monitoring the repair progress and submitting regular reports.

The proactive steps aim to ensure sustainable water management and secure the interests of the farming community, reflecting the government’s ongoing focus on strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural sector.
