Imran Khan Meets Sister Uzma Khanum Amid PTI Protests at Adiala Jail

Authorities at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday allowed former Prime Minister Imran Khan to meet his sister Uzma Khanum, amid ongoing protests by PTI supporters outside the facility. The demonstrations came in response to alleged restrictions on Khan’s visitation rights, which the party claimed had barred his family and party leaders from meeting him for several weeks.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, no one had been allowed to meet Imran or his wife Bushra Bibi since October 27. Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which prohibits assemblies of four or more people, has been imposed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of PTI protests.

Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry emphasized strict enforcement of Section 144, warning that any breach would be met with action. He linked the gatherings to potential terrorist activity, noting that terrorists often exploit political protests to spread fear. Chaudhry added that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Interior Ministry are monitoring social media use, particularly VPN applications, to prevent misuse by terrorist networks.

The minister also reminded officials that state resources cannot be used for political activities, referencing a Peshawar High Court ruling, and warned provincial office holders against unauthorized use of security personnel or resources during protests.

Security Measures in Rawalpindi and Islamabad

Rawalpindi police deployed approximately 3,000 officers to manage law and order, including traffic and security duties, while pickets were set up on routes leading to Adiala Jail. Roads connecting key government buildings in the Red Zone were blocked to prevent large gatherings.

PTI leaders, including Asad Qaiser and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, have staged protests at the Islamabad High Court and plan to move demonstrations to Adiala Jail, alleging that court orders for visitation were not being implemented. The party has also alleged that police had previously manhandled and detained Imran Khan’s sisters during protests.

Despite ongoing political tensions and speculation about his health, both the government and PTI leaders have stated that Imran Khan is in good health.

The developments highlight the continued friction between PTI supporters and government authorities over the former premier’s incarceration, visitation rights, and political mobilization in the twin cities.
