Imran Khan, Sheikh Rasheed, and Others Acquitted in Long March Vandalism Case

The District and Sessions Court Islamabad has acquitted PTI founder Imran Khan, former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed, and several other political figures in the Long March vandalism case. The ruling, issued by Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood, concluded that the allegations against the accused lacked sufficient evidence to support a conviction.

The court’s written judgment states that even if the case had proceeded to trial, the prosecution's claims were unconvincing. According to the prosecution, 1,200 to 1,500 activists were accused of attacking police, but the evidence presented did not hold up. The court expressed doubts about the credibility of the case and ruled that the allegations against the accused, including Imran Khan, Sheikh Rasheed, Faisal Vawda, and Sadaqat Abbasi, were not proven.

Other notable figures acquitted in the case include Fayyazul Hasan Chauhan, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Asad Qaiser, Fawad Chaudhry, and Shibli Faraz. The court also ordered the return of bail bonds for the accused.

Imran Khan’s release was ordered, provided he was not under arrest for any other case, marking a significant legal win for the PTI leadership. The case, which was registered in August 2022 at the Abpara police station, had been a point of contention within Pakistan’s political and judicial systems.

This ruling marks a key moment in the ongoing political developments surrounding PTI and its leadership.
