Iran has strongly rejected claims by the United States and Israel that it was allegedly planning to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, describing the accusations as “ridiculous” and politically motivated.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told reporters on Monday that Tehran sees Israel’s claims as an attempt to damage its relations with other countries through “absurd allegations.”
Unnamed US and Israeli officials had claimed that the Quds Force, the external operations branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), plotted to target Israeli envoy Einat Kranz Neiger from late 2024 into mid-2025. According to these sources, the plot was reportedly contained and posed no current threat, though no evidence was provided.
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement thanking Mexican security and law enforcement for allegedly thwarting a network “directed by Iran” that sought to attack the ambassador. The statement emphasized that Israel would continue to work with international agencies to prevent Iranian-linked threats against Israeli and Jewish targets worldwide.
However, both Mexico’s foreign relations and security ministries have denied any knowledge of such an incident, stating that there is “no report with respect to a supposed attempt against the ambassador of Israel in Mexico” and that no diplomatic ties have been disrupted.
Iran’s embassy in Mexico labeled the allegations a “media intervention and a great lie”, adding that betraying Mexico’s interests would be equivalent to betraying Iran’s own interests. Baghaei added, “We found this allegation so absurd and ridiculous that we did not even think it required an official response.”
Baghaei also referenced past Israeli accusations against Iran, including alleged attacks on Jewish synagogues in Australia in late 2024. Investigations by the New South Wales Police Force reportedly found no evidence of foreign agent involvement, but Israel continued to insist on Tehran’s involvement.
In August 2025, Australia accused Iran of orchestrating two “anti-Semitic” arson attacks in Sydney and Melbourne, expelled Tehran’s ambassador, and designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization, citing intelligence of Iranian operations targeting Jewish communities.
Baghaei argued that similar accusations by Israel and the US in Europe and North America in recent years are part of a recurring pattern, aimed at discrediting Iran internationally.
The latest claims come amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing disputes between Iran and Western allies over alleged intelligence operations and terrorist activities.
