WORLD NEWS

Tensions surged dramatically in the Middle East as Iran declared nuclear dialogue with the United States “meaningless”, following Israel’s largest-ever military strike on Iranian territory. The unprecedented escalation has thrown upcoming US-Iran nuclear talks scheduled for Sunday in Oman into serious doubt.
Speaking to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei accused the United States of supporting Israel's aggressive actions. “You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time divide work by allowing the Zionist regime [Israel] to target Iran’s territory,” he said.
The United States has rejected Iran’s accusation, with US officials at the UN Security Council urging Tehran to return to the negotiating table, calling it a “wise” move.
⚠️ Israel’s Assault & Trump's Endorsement
The fresh wave of Israeli airstrikes, which Tel Aviv claims were aimed at halting Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons development, has pushed the region toward a new flashpoint. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue military action “for as many days as it takes.”
Former US President Donald Trump, in a controversial post on Truth Social, called the Israeli attacks “excellent,” suggesting that Iran now has a “second chance” to avoid total destruction and that US and Israeli firepower would not hesitate in the future.
“Israel has a lot of it [military hardware], with much more to come. And they know how to use it,” Trump wrote.
Trump also claimed Iran had rejected past US proposals regarding its uranium enrichment program and warned of even more brutal Israeli strikes.
📉 Nuclear Talks in Jeopardy
The sixth round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States was due to take place on Sunday in Muscat, Oman, but Iranian officials now say participation is uncertain. “It is still unclear what decision we will make for Sunday,” Baghaei told IRNA.
Iran insists its uranium enrichment is strictly for civilian purposes, rejecting Israel's claims of a covert nuclear weapons program.
🎙 Expert View: Diplomacy Deadlocked
Tehran-based political scientist Hamed Mousavi told Al Jazeera the mood in Iran is defiant, with little support for Israeli goals of regime change.
“The Israelis essentially killed the diplomatic solution… what was surprising was the Americans were fully coordinating with the Israelis,” Mousavi said. “It’s unlikely the negotiations will continue.”
He added that Israel appeared to expect internal unrest in Iran as a result of the attacks — a reaction that has not materialized.
🇮🇷 Public Sentiment in Iran
Despite the severe escalation, protests or public unrest in Tehran have not occurred. “The mood right now is actually pretty defiant,” Mousavi said. “I don’t really see that many Iranians sympathizing with the Israelis.”
