Iran Signals “New Phase” in Gulf and Strait of Hormuz After War, Says Mojtaba Khamenei

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has said that a “new phase” is taking shape in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz following the recent war involving the United States and Israel.

In a written message released on Thursday, Khamenei stated that the regional order is undergoing significant changes after months of conflict, adding that Iran will take a more active role in shaping security and management of the strategically vital waterway.

He emphasized that Tehran aims to ensure stability in the Gulf while preventing what he described as “abuse” of the Strait of Hormuz by foreign powers. According to him, this new phase will bring “calm, progress, and economic benefits” to the region under revised arrangements.

Reports suggest that Iran views the post-war situation as an opportunity to strengthen its influence over maritime routes that are crucial for global energy supplies. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping lanes, through which a large share of global oil exports pass.

The statement comes amid continued tensions between Iran and Western powers following the conflict, with global markets closely watching developments due to the potential impact on oil prices and international trade.

Analysts believe Iran’s remarks signal a more assertive regional strategy, particularly regarding maritime security and control of strategic chokepoints.
