Islamabad High Court Dismisses Imran Khan's Review Petition on Iddat Case Timeline

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed a review petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi regarding the timeline for deciding appeals in the Iddat Nikah case. The court reaffirmed its earlier order directing the Sessions Court to conclude the appeals by July 12.

Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb presided over the hearing where arguments were presented by Khawar Manika's legal team and representatives for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The petition sought an extension citing complexities in the case and the unavailability of key legal counsels.

During the proceedings, Imran Khan's lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, argued against extending the deadline, emphasizing the court's previous directive and the importance of adhering to legal timelines. Rizwan Abbasi, representing Khawar Manika, requested additional time until September, citing ongoing complexities and the unavailability of necessary legal personnel.

The IHC, however, upheld its initial order, noting that it retains authority over the timelines set for judicial processes. The court underscored the necessity of timely justice delivery, especially in cases of legal significance.

Background to the case dates back to November 25, when Khawar Manika filed a petition alleging that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi contracted marriage during her Iddat period following divorce proceedings. The case has seen several legal turns, including the Sessions Court's initial sentencing of seven years in February and subsequent appeals.

The IHC's decision aligns with its commitment to ensuring adherence to legal protocols and upholding the sanctity of judicial timelines. As the case progresses, further legal arguments and developments are expected to shape the outcome.
