A senior Islamabad Police officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar, allegedly died by suicide on Saturday after reportedly shooting himself with a service weapon.
According to police sources, SP Akbar snatched the gun from his official gunman and shot himself. He was immediately shifted to PIMS Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries.
SP Adeel Akbar was serving as SP Industrial Area in the Islamabad Police. Just moments before the tragic incident, he had been reviewing security arrangements at Haji Camp in the federal capital.
Earlier in the day, the Islamabad Police posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account that SP Akbar had visited the Haji Camp, met officers on duty, and instructed them to remain vigilant. The post included photos of him interacting with personnel and inspecting security measures.
The sudden and tragic death has shocked the police department and his colleagues. Senior officials have reached the hospital, and an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been launched.
Further details are awaited as investigators look into the motive behind the apparent suicide.
