The ongoing conflict in Gaza has reached an alarming new low as Israeli military forces target three major hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip. Authorities and medical professionals in the besieged enclave are urgently calling for international intervention to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
On Tuesday, sustained Israeli attacks devastated Kamal Adwan Hospital, Indonesian Hospital, and al-Awda Hospital, leaving healthcare workers and patients in peril. The situation has escalated significantly, with reports of explosive-laden robotic vehicles detonating near Kamal Adwan Hospital. Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, the hospital’s director, reported 20 injuries among patients and staff as a result of these explosions.
Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud described the surrounding area as a “wasteland,” with infrastructure so severely damaged that access to the hospital is now nearly impossible. Multiple departments, including the intensive care unit, have been rendered inoperable due to repeated bombings.
The al-Awda Hospital, a charitable facility providing free healthcare, was also hit on its third floor, causing a fire that spread to nearby residential buildings. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Hospital faced similar devastation after being ordered to evacuate by Israeli forces, who later stormed the building.
“These hospitals are lifelines for the wounded, but they are now under siege,” said Munir Al-Bursh, director of Gaza’s Ministry of Health. “The Israeli military’s deliberate targeting is a clear attempt to put them out of service.”
The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights condemned the attacks, labeling them acts of genocide. Gaza’s Health Ministry echoed the sentiment, calling for immediate international action to save what remains of the region’s healthcare system.
The violence has not been limited to hospital grounds. Air raids across Gaza continue to claim lives daily, with 32 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Among the casualties were a child and two women killed in a bombing that destroyed a central Gaza residence.
Adding to the crisis, humanitarian aid remains blocked by Israeli forces, exacerbating the suffering of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents. Aid convoys face relentless obstacles, including drone attacks and looting, making it nearly impossible to deliver essential supplies.
The United Nations humanitarian agency (OCHA) has expressed grave concern over the worsening situation. Tom Fletcher, OCHA’s head, stated, “Gaza is facing its most dangerous situation yet. Humanitarian workers are being killed, supplies are being looted, and access is being systematically denied.”
With hospitals crippled, civilians terrorized, and aid efforts obstructed, the situation in Gaza demands urgent and united global action to avert further loss of life and uphold basic human rights.
