Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman Discusses Security, Trust Issues, and Election Rigging with Army Chief

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman recently shared details of a significant meeting with Army Chief General Asim Munir, shedding light on key discussions surrounding national security, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s terrorism situation, and political trust in Pakistan.

According to Naeem-ur-Rehman, the conversation primarily focused on the ongoing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the Army Chief briefing him on the measures taken by the armed forces to combat terrorism in the region. While matters related to the government’s internal policies were not extensively covered, the briefings also included an update on Afghanistan and its potential impact on Pakistan's security.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader emphasized the current lack of trust between the army and the people, stressing that it is the shared responsibility of the government, military, and political forces to take concrete steps to bridge this gap. He pointed out that the public's confidence in the military could be restored through respect for democratic mandates and transparent governance.

In response to Afghanistan's situation, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman highlighted the need for continued dialogue, suggesting that political forces, including Jamaat-e-Islami, could contribute by organizing a jirga. He argued that Pakistan cannot afford further conflict with Afghanistan and called for the Afghan government to recognize the importance of Pakistan's involvement in resolving their mutual issues.

On the political front, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman reiterated his longstanding position on the 2024 elections, describing them as even more rigged than previous ones. He called for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the alleged rigging and to ensure justice for political prisoners, including PTI founder Imran Khan. He also criticized the selective detention of political leaders, questioning why figures like Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari, and Shehbaz Sharif were not facing similar scrutiny.

The meeting also saw some tension between the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Chief Minister, highlighting the ongoing political divisions in the region.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman’s remarks reflect Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to playing an active role in addressing Pakistan's security and political challenges, with a focus on accountability and national unity.
