JI Leader Criticizes Bill Rejection Amid

Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) leader and former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has alleged that President Asif Ali Zardari returned the Societies Registration (Amendment) Act 2024 to parliament under external pressure, avoiding its enactment into law.

Addressing a Khatam-i-Bukhari Sharif function at a seminary in Koto on Friday, the JI leader expressed his disappointment over the development. He stated that the bill was crucial for the rights of seminaries, ensuring their registration, audits, and the provision of contemporary education for students.

Mr. Ahmad highlighted that around 30,000 seminaries in Pakistan provide free education to nearly four million students, including girls, without any government assistance. “No one can stop the bill’s implementation,” he asserted, emphasizing its importance in safeguarding seminaries’ operations.

The former senator also addressed global issues, lamenting the Muslim world's inability to halt the genocide of Palestinians. Criticizing the US government’s selective justice, he condemned its silence on the release of Dr. Aafia Siddique, a Pakistani physician jailed in the US, and vowed to visit her soon.

Turning to domestic politics, Mr. Ahmad criticized the government’s crackdown on PTI workers and urged the party to abandon its call for civil disobedience. He also labeled the government’s committee for negotiations with PTI as powerless. On the situation in the former FATA region, he questioned the Army's prolonged presence, noting continued acts of terrorism in the area.

Robbery Ring Busted in Lower Dir

In another development, the Khadagzai police arrested four robbers involved in recent thefts in the area. SHO Naeem Khan identified the suspects as Idrees from Chakdara, and Asif, Shakil, and Bilal from Malakand.

The gang had looted a house and a shop, making away with valuable items, including a laptop. The police successfully recovered the stolen goods and received commendation from district police officer Salim Abbas Kulachi during his visit to the station.

DPO Kulachi lauded the efforts of SHO Naeem Khan and his team, instructing officers to intensify their operations against drug smugglers and other criminals in the district.

The dual developments underscore the mix of political challenges and law enforcement achievements currently shaping Lower Dir.
