LEGAL
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has declared eight workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including women, innocent while finding several others, including Hassan Niazi's sister, guilty.
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Manzar Ali Gul presided over the case proceedings, where the findings of the JIT were presented. The eight acquitted individuals requested the withdrawal of their bail applications, following which the court officially disposed of their applications.
Accused Found Guilty
The investigation by the JIT found Hajra Niazi, sister of PTI leader Hassan Niazi, guilty of involvement in the attack, along with Fatima Haider, Bina Zeeshan, and Rukhsana Naveed. The court subsequently extended their interim bail until January 15.
Background of the Case
The Jinnah House attack case stems from the violent protests following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan earlier this year. The incident led to widespread condemnation and prompted authorities to launch a crackdown on those allegedly involved in acts of vandalism and arson.
The Sarwar Road Police Station had registered the case, which has since been under the scrutiny of a JIT to identify those culpable in the attack.
Broader Implications
The case continues to underscore the deepening legal and political challenges for PTI members and affiliates. While the acquittals bring some relief, the findings against prominent figures like Hajra Niazi indicate an ongoing scrutiny of the party’s role in the events.
