Vice President Kamala Harris is set to kick off her first rally with her newly announced vice presidential nominee on Tuesday, August 6, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This marks the beginning of a four-day battleground tour that will also include critical stops in Michigan, Arizona, and other key locations.

The choice of Philadelphia for the tour’s launch suggests that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has emerged as a leading candidate for the vice presidential slot. The state, which Democrats reclaimed from Republicans in the 2020 election, remains a crucial battleground for the upcoming November 5 election.

Following the Philadelphia rally, Harris and her vice presidential pick will visit six other locations, including western Wisconsin, Detroit, and Las Vegas. The campaign emphasized that while the choice of running mate is high-profile, Harris has not yet made a final decision on her vice presidential selection.

The announcement of the tour comes as Kamala Harris assumes a more prominent role in the Democratic race following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 White House race just over a week ago. The decision on Harris's running mate has become a focal point of the campaign, highlighting the strategic importance of key battleground states in securing the election.

The campaign's statement late Tuesday night underscored the high stakes of the upcoming tour, with Harris set to navigate through critical regions that will play a significant role in the election outcome.
